i’ve been reading this book about the history of french music from 70s disco to 90s house and hip hop, and phillippe zdar is a name that came up recently. together with boom bass, zdar is part of a due making french house music. apparently in the earlier part of his career, he was more into sampling and later faded away from this. this track, feelings for you, has a great sample making it catchy and the groovy bass underneath takes it to the next level. all i could get my hands on was this video:

the consolation prize contributes in its own way, translating the bass into a more mechanical sound that rips and shreds:

alas, this should not go unmentioned:

after coming across this video on youtube several months ago, i’ve been imagining that a good quality version of this song existed. this is however what i was able to find, and i hope that if it is indeed unrecorded that they will use it somehow in the not so distance future.

also, i was going to post van she’s sex city, because it is indeed great, but i don’t have it handy…

digitalism is the shit. i am not listening to them all the time, but it’s something i can always come back to. this mix is great, and the next time i see them play, this makes me hope that it is to be a dj set. i feel like i’ve lost touch with them a little bit, aside from certain recognition, i’d like to know more of what they’re playing these days.
